INTRODUCING "CIVILIANS"
Cooking Vinyl Australia Rebrand
"Civilians" is the new identity of Cooking Vinyl Australia. Following the successes of over a decade as CVA, Stu Harvey and Leigh Gruppetta announce today a new look and name for the respected Australian company.
Civilians carries with it a tried and tested approach to releasing music with a fresh perspective and innovative mindset.
Originally launched in 2013 as Cooking Vinyl Australia, the company, under the leadership of Gruppetta and Harvey, has evolved into a multifaceted entity that boasts direct artist signings and comprehensive label services to an expanding roster of artists and labels.
Much like CVA, Civilians' A&R decisions are genre-agnostic, focusing instead on artists with cultural significance and commercial potential. They proudly amplify their artist's vision and uniqueness, aiming to build long and sustainable careers delivering timeless records that truly matter.
The label’s diverse and award-winning roster includes artists such as Fanny Lumsden, Emma Donovan, King Stingray, Eliza & The Delusionals, Windwaker and Luca Brasi.
In addition to direct artist signings, Civilians offers label services to various partners, including Thirty Tigers, Run For Cover, Resist, Greyscale and Dine Alone. The company also provides full backend support for Australia’s leading heavy music export, Parkway Drive, as they launched their imprint, Parkway Records, in 2021.
At the core of Civilians’ operations is a commitment to building and nurturing genuine partnerships and fostering creative freedom with the artists and labels they represent.
"Leigh and I have always aimed to work with partners we respect and artists who make music we love" says Stu Harvey, "We only get involved if we know that we can offer genuine value to them to help them build sustainable careers. It's a privilege to have an artist share their art with us, and it's not something we ever take for granted."
With new signings to be announced soon for the label, Civilians is also set to significantly expand its artist and label services roster. With a proven track record of providing services for esteemed labels, Civilians aims to build audiences across Australia and New Zealand. Its strength lies in marketing support, strategic insight, and the invaluable ‘boots on the ground’ knowledge gained from over 40 years of combined experience in the Australian music industry.
“It’s a new name, a renewed focus but the same us” Gruppetta adds, “We remain committed to everything that has driven our growth over the past 11 years. Collaboration, transparency, creative freedom, and prioritising our artists’ long-term careers are always at the heart of what we do. That’s why the launch of Civilians is such an exciting new chapter for our business and our artists and label partners.”
